New York: Peaceful Protest Outside the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) During the UN World Summit held in New York, Falun Gong practitioners held a series of large-scale activities to call on people from all walks of life to help stop the persecution of Falun Gong taking place in China. One of the prominent activities was a 24-hour vigil outside the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel where Hu Jintao was staying.

Huge banners reading, "Falun Dafa is Good," "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance," "Stop Persecuting Falun Gong," "Bring Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing, Zhou Yongkang to justice," "Bring justice to vicious police and other perpetrators who persecute Falun Gong," and "Hu Jintao, the time given to you by Heaven and the people is limited," clearly expressed what Falun Gong practitioners wanted to say. Peacefully doing the exercises and sending forth righteous thoughts demonstrated that the Falun Gong practitioners' appeal remains peaceful. After having gone through over six years of brutal persecution, the practitioners sincerely called upon Hu Jintao to grasp this precious opportunity to learn about the truth of Falun Gong, stop the persecution and choose a bright future for themselves.

Falun Gong practitioners who took part in the activities were from different areas. They made great efforts to come to New York. Many of them continuously took part in the peaceful vigil during the night outside the hotel.

About 100 practitioners were from Taiwan. Ms. Hong said that her group was composed of over a dozen practitioners that arrived in New York on September 11. After the appeal, they would continue staying in Manhattan for a month to clarify the truth. During the night of September 14, Ms. Hong and Ms. Zhong, who is in her 70s, joined the night's vigil until 4:00 a.m. Ms. Hong was moved by the fact that when she got up at 8:00 a.m. the next day, Ms. Zhong had already gotten ready to take part in the whole day's activities.

Mr. Xu, a computer engineer who lives in Chicago, took a day leave from his busy schedule at work and arrived in New York at midnight on September 13. He directly went from the airport to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel to join the activities. The next day, he continued participating in the vigil in front of the UN and the Falun Gong parade. In the evening, he came back to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel again. He flew back to Chicago to work in the early morning on September 15.

Though the schedule was very difficult, Mr. Xu had no second thoughts at all. He said, "I hope to do my best to help Hu Jintao learn the truth about Falun Gong, let him become clear-headed, see clearly the situation and stop the persecution. This doesn't just mean himself, since he is in a special position right now, and his awakening will help save more Chinese people."

"In the past six years of peacefully resisting the persecution, Falun Gong practitioners have been tirelessly clarifying the truth. The Chinese regime should completely stop the persecution, allow a peaceful cultivation environment in Mainland China, and let people have a righteous understanding of Falun Gong, so as to embrace a beautiful future. That is our sincere hope. For the sake of these sentient beings' futures, we feel that our efforts are worthwhile."

Hu Jintao Leaves New York, Falun Gong Practitioners Offer Advice Again (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) On the morning of September 16, 2005, Hu Jintao left New York for Vancouver. At a little after 9 a.m., the Chinese motorcade came out of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. Someone said that Hu Jintao left with the motorcade, but the Falun Gong practitioners appealing in New York during the last few days did not leave. At 10:40 a.m., several cars of the Chinese delegation came out the south entrance of the hotel. At the same time, Hu Jintao's motorcade, consisting of about 4 cars, came out the north entrance of the hotel. Practitioners holding banners on the sidewalk spoke out loudly together, "Falun Dafa is Great", "Stop the Persecution of Falun Gong", "Bring to Justice Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing, and Zhou Yongkang", "Bring to Justice Ruthless Police and Others Who Persecute Falun Gong", and "Hu Jintao, the Time That Heaven and the People Give to You Is Limited".

Hu Jintao arrived in New York on September 13. Xinhua.net claimed that 5,000 people welcomed him. Actually there were only around 500 people in the welcome group, which was hired. On the other hand, the practitioners' appeal was grand in scale. When Hu left, only the practitioners saw him off. During Hu's visit to North America, practitioners held peaceful protests everywhere he went and unfurled banners.

Outside the hotel, practitioners kept vigil for 24 hours a day. After 1 a.m. on September 16, a thunderstorm came. The practitioners were drenched, but no one left. The practitioners' tireless efforts were aimed at helping Hu Jintao find out the facts about Falun Gong, make a wise choice, stop the persecution and choose a bright future for himself and the Chinese people.

Vancouver, Canada: Before the Arrival of Hu Jintao, Practitioners Call for the Release of Relatives Being Unlawfully Imprisoned in China (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) On September 15, 2005, one day before the arrival of Hu Jintao, Vancouver practitioners held a press conference in front of the Chinese Consulate. Vancouver residents Ms. Tianxiao Zhang and Ms. Chunyu Zhang hoped that during the meeting with Hu, British Columbia's Premier Gordon Campbell and Canada Prime Minister Martin will ask Hu Jintao to release their relatives that are being unlawfully imprisoned in China.

Practitioner Sofia said that practitioners handed over an open letter to Premier Campbell and asked him to give it to Hu Jintao on September 16. She said that Premier Campbell should ask Hu to release eight practitioners who are illegally imprisoned in China for persisting in practicing Falun Gong and have family connections with British Columbia. The letter asked Hu Jintao to free their relatives and all practitioners, and to bring to justice Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing and Zhou Yongkang. The letter reminded Hu that "the time Heaven and the people are giving him is limited" and hoped that he would immediately stop the persecution of Falun Gong.

Ms. Tianxiao Zhang called on Prime Minister Martin and Premier Campbell to rescue her sister. Her brother-in-law was tortured to death in a Chinese Communist Party's forced labor camp. Her mother passed away while facing the tragedy. Her sister was arrested in February 2002, and no further information about her whereabouts is known. Ms. Chunyu Zhang hoped that the meeting would help her mother and sister leave the notorious Masanjia Forced Labor Camp.

Falun Gong spokesperson Li Ying said that they would appeal during Hu Jintao's visit to Vancouver to help him see the wide spread of Falun Gong overseas and hear the practitioners' voice. The practitioners hoped that Hu Jintao would stop Jiang Zemin's policy and end the persecution.

Ottawa: Photo Report on "Anti-Torture" Exhibit (3)

Mexico City: Hu Jintao Sees Falun Gong Banners Up Close (Photo)

(Clearwisdom.net) During Hu Jintao's visit to Mexico from Sep. 11 to Sep. 13, 2005, Chinese Communist Party officials made every attempt to have Hu's view blocked so that he wouldn't see Falun Gong banners. However, Falun Gong practitioners successfully broke through to have Hu and his companions see Falun Gong banners up close.

When Hu's motorcade arrived at the hotel on the afternoon of Sep. 11, CCP supporters with colorful flags in hand swarmed to form a wall between the road and Falun Gong banners. Reporters struggled to take pictures for this rare occasion. It was a moment of tension and disorder. Two Falun Gong practitioners withdrew from the crowd, went around it and in front of the hired "greeting team". They were only a few feet away from Hu's motorcade. The "greeting team" was shocked and didn't know what to do for a while.

According to local police, reporters and government officials, Hu happened to turn his head to look out the window. He saw the banner of the two Falun Gong practitioners. The lower portion of the banner contained six pictures of torture victims.

Hu Encountered Falun Gong Practitioners in Front of Anthropology Museum

When Hu was leaving the Anthropology Museum in the evening, a woman Falun Gong practitioner went to the museum exit and unfurled a banner in front of Hu's motorcade. On the banner were a picture of a peacefully meditating western lady and a picture of a Chinese practitioner being tortured. At that point, two men tried to snatch her banner but the practitioner stopped them with stern words. A Mexican practitioner took off his yellow Falun Gong jacket, showed it to Hu's motorcade and shouted in Chinese, "Falun Dafa is good!"

Before Hu's visit to the Mexican Congress, police set up guardrails. The Falun Gong practitioners unfurled large banners stating, "Stop the persecution of Falun Gong in China." "Bring Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing and Zhou Yongkang to justice." "Bring the wicked policemen to justice." "Falun Dafa, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance"

Hu didn't show up for a long time. Everyone was told later that he had entered the building from a side door. Two Mexican Falun Gong practitioners waited at the side of the building. When Hu was leaving, a large banner stating "Bring Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing and Zhou Yongkang to justice" in both English and Chinese was unfurled. Hu and his companions walked by the banner one by one.

Some other practitioners waiting on the other side of the building shouted, "Hu Jintao, stop the persecution of Falun Gong!" "Falun Dafa is good!" The Chinese security guards were flabbergasted and at a loss for what to do.

Among the CCP supporters were some of Hu's escorts, including a man specializing in the persecution of Falun Gong in China. He claimed that he had written many Falun Gong-slandering articles. There were also some Chinese living in Canada and Mexico. They tried in vain to block the voice of appeal. A couple of men said that they had been exhausted trying to block Falun Gong for days. Some complained, "It is the consulate's arrangement! We have been worked to death!" "I don't think it is right (to block Falun Gong). Everyone should just take care of his own business." One of the men expressed to us that freedom of belief is a basic human right, and the Chinese people should have that right.

Mexico: Practitioners Hold Anti-Torture Exhibit (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) On September 12, 2005, when Hu Jintao visited Mexico, local Falun Gong practitioners held an anti-torture exhibit at the bustling square in downtown to raise awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong. It was their first time to hold an anti-torture exhibit in Mexico, and the practitioners simultaneously demonstrated the Falun Gong exercises. The audience was able to feel Falun Gong's peacefulness and harmony, and understand the brutality of the persecution at the same time.

People came in a steady stream to the square. A variety of performances were put on one after another. People were strolling leisurely among them, showing great curiosity. At 2:00 pm, the anti-torture exhibit was ready, and groups of people stopped to watch. With the demonstration of torture, photos depicting horrifying tortures, and the elegant exercise demonstration, coupled with a practitioner's brief explanations, people immediately understood the truth. Some turned around right away to face the cathedral and offered a prayer. Some watched practitioners performing the exercises in front of the exhibit, attracted by peaceful energy field. While passing out flyers, practitioners noticed the people's sincere desire to learn the truth.

A little girl accepted a flyer and a handmade paper lotus flower, and ran back to us and kissed us goodbye when the practitioners were about to leave. Though there was a language barrier, we still could feel a life's joy after obtaining the truth. A young man especially asked local practitioners to convey to us that he hoped the Chinese government can awaken soon and stop the brutal persecution. He also wished us good luck. A Chinese man from Taiwan suggested that we contact the local Chinese people to tell them the facts.

A practitioner from North America greeted people surrounding the exhibit with a few not-so-fluent Spanish sentences that she knew while passing out flyers. Though people had a hard time understanding her, they smiled and accepted the flyers, and sincerely thanked her. After receiving the flyers, some people immediately read them. A new local practitioner saw this and shared with us afterwards that the scene of people longing for the truth deeply touched him, and he realized that truth clarification indeed can offer people salvation, and he would do more of it in the future.

There was a steady stream of people watching the anti-torture exhibit and exercise demonstration. In just over one hour, nearly 2,000 flyers were given out. People did not leave until we collected everything to leave.

After that, practitioners went to the Mexican parliament building, where Hu Jintao would visit an hour later. As soon as we got ready for the anti-torture exhibit, several reporters came to take pictures. The police saw us come and began to place metal parapets. When they walked near our anti-torture exhibit, they politely waited for the reporters to finish taking photos and asked us to move slightly for the metal parapets. There were about 20 media outlets taking photos and interviewing practitioners. People passing by walked to our anti-torture exhibit and curiously inquired about the event, and government officials working nearby also came over. One official expressed that if all these tortures are truly taking place in China, the government is really too dirty and debased.

United Kingdom: Introducing Falun Gong at the Birmingham Art Festival (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) From the 9th to the 11th of September, Birmingham ArtsFest 2005 was held in the Birmingham city centre, UK. Hundreds of professional art groups in the UK participated in various performances such as music, dance, arts and crafts. The world famous Birmingham Royal Ballet and the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra were also among the entertainers. About one hundred thousand people were estimated to have attended the festival. For the fourth year in a row, the UK Falun Gong group was invited to perform at the annual arts festival.

Considering the large number of artists participating, the organizing committee set up a few side stages aside from the main stage at Centenary Square in the city centre. At 4 pm on Saturday the 10th of September, seven female Falun Gong practitioners in traditional Chinese costumes demonstrated the five sets of exercises on the main stage, followed by their self-created dance "Flying Law Wheels." When Falun Gong music played, the whole square seemed to be immersed in an atmosphere of peace and harmony. The crowd watched intently. The special charm of oriental art touched the audience. Lasting nearly half an hour, the performance won warm applause.

The ArtsFest provided participating artists with free stands. For two days from the 10th to the 11th of September, Falun Gong practitioners distributed leaflets to introduce Falun Gong to tourists. While passing the stand, some people commended the practitioners' performance, and some inquired about where to get the Falun Gong music. Numerous local residents asked for details of practice sites, hoping to learn the Falun Gong exercises.

What Messages Do Falun Gong Practitioners Want to Send to Hu Jintao

Hu Jintao is visiting North America for the first time since he became the head of the Chinese Communist Party. Wherever he appears, people can see, on site or through the media, a group of Falun Gong practitioners dressed in yellow and holding banners in their hands. They are delivering a message of protest in a unique and peaceful manner. What message do the Falun Gong practitioners wish to deliver to Hu Jintao, and what do they really want?

The answer is very simple. In terms of Hu's visit, Falun Gong practitioners have prepared three major banners: "Bring Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jin and Zhou Yongkang to Justice!"; "Severely Punish the Vicious Police and Evildoers Who Persecute Falun Gong,"; and, "Hu Jintao: The Time Heaven and the People Have Given You Is Limited." As one can see, as always, Falun Gong practitioners do not have any political pursuits; they only ask for justice and the punishment of the evildoers who persecute Falun Gong. As for Hu Jintao himself, Falun Gong practitioners continue to attempt to persuade him to do good things, hoping that he will cherish being at the apex of political power at this time and seize the opportunity to uphold justice.

Some Chinese people do not believe that the Falun Gong practitioners' requests are so simple and straightforward. They think there has to be some sort of political factors behind it. The reason they think this way is mainly because they don't know how brutal the persecution of Falun Gong in China has been. Actually, anyone who has lived in mainland China and experienced the CCP's numerous movements, big or small, has some knowledge of the CCP's atrocities. Chinese people have been persecuted by the CCP again and again. However, because the CCP followed a closed-door policy, people around the world knew little about these persecutions. Many of the CCP's dark secrets have been exposed by the victims only recently, after the CCP opened up China to do business with foreigners for the purpose of its own survival. These stories are just too numerous to mention and almost too terrible to believe.

The kind-hearted Chinese people have always hoped that the CCP would give up its wicked ways and reform itself, time and again. They hope that the CCP will gradually lead China to democracy in the global trend of democratization. However, in the past six years, the CCP has continued to throw millions of Falun Gong practitioners into brainwashing classes, detention centers, labor camps, jails and even mental hospitals. It continues to persecute these innocent Chinese people with the most ruthless means and uses all the propaganda machinery of the state to slander Falun Gong and to cover up its atrocities. That's why many people do not understand the appeals of Falun Gong practitioners. If people knew the truth about what Falun Gong practitioners have endured, we believe no one would ever doubt their motives. In addition, people would reconsider this issue: Could they trust China's future to the CCP, even as the CCP continues to murder innocent Chinese citizens to maintain its rule?

Because of the Chinese Communist Party's continuous propaganda and 56 years of despotic brainwashing of the Chinese people, even overseas, many Chinese people's minds have been implanted with a lot of hostility and misunderstanding towards Falun Gong. For Hu's visit this time, Falun Gong practitioners Liang Biao and Zeng Xiaonan requested the release of their mothers: Huo Xiuchao, 69 years old, who has been sentenced to 4 years in prison, and Huang Xin, 51 years old, who has been sentenced to 8 years just for practicing Falun Gong. For many Falun Gong practitioners such as Zhang Kunlun, He Lizhi, and Lin Shenli, who have already been rescued to Canada, they hope the persecution they went through in prison can be investigated and reported responsibly by the media. This is not only something that relates to Falun Gong practitioners, but also it relates to the Chinese community's harmony and the people's understanding of the CCP and China's future. It is especially related to the question of whether the overseas Chinese community can truly uphold its morality and justice while under pressure from the CCP.

Hu Jintao has arrived. The reason that Falun Gong practitioners call out to Hu Jintao in public is to help him make his choice based on his conscience as a human being. It is for himself as well as for the future of China. It is just as the old saying goes: Any thought in a human's mind will be known by the universe. If karmic retribution for good or evil were not equally accorded, the heavenly law would be unfair.

Thoughts on Bo Xilai's Name Being Removed from the List to Visit Canada

(Clearwisdom.net) Prior to Hu Jintao's visit to Canada, sources said that the Chinese Minister of Commerce, Bo Xilai, would accompany Hu to Canada. But when the Chinese delegation arrived in Toronto, Bo Xilai was not one of the delegation.

Records indicate that when Bo was the mayor and Chinese Communist Party Secretary of the City of Dalian, and when he was Governor of Liaoning Province, Liaoning was one of the worst provinces with regard to the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. In 2004, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police put 45 high-ranking officials who participated in the persecution of Falun Gong, including Bo Xilai, on a list to be monitored. These officials may be denied entry into Canada, expelled, or criminally charged.

On August 26, Falun Gong practitioners from Canada appealed to the Canadian government to ban Chinese Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai, who has been charged for crimes against humanity for his involvement in the persecution of Falun Gong, from entering Canada. On September 7, one day before Hu Jintao's visit to Canada, acclaimed Ottawa human rights attorney Lawrence Greenspan submitted a lawsuit to the Ontario High Court, charging Bo Xilai with the crime of torture and requesting that Bo compensate the plaintiffs for the damages.

Before Hu's Canadian visit, over 100,000 Canadians signed a joint letter to Prime Minister Martin, asking Martin urge Hu to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. The Canadian society expressed great interest in the Falun Gong issue. An editorial from the Ottawa Citizen on September 9 said that Martin should bring up the issue of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners that is currently happening in China.

Under great pressure from the public, Bo Xilai disappeared from the list of officials visiting Canada. On the morning of September 9, at a joint press conference between the Canadian and Chinese governments, Canadian Prime Minister Martin said he discussed human rights, including the persecution of Falun Gong, during the meeting with Hu. This proved that Chinese Communist Party's attempt to fool and silence the international community on the Falun Gong issue is failing.

Media in China are still touting Bo Xilai to deceive those who don't know the truth. However, it is now an undeniable fact that his name was removed from the delegation to visit Canada. Outside of China, where the truth is more widely known, everyone would feel insulted to be accompanied by a person with such a terrible record. More importantly, the vast majority of countries that value freedom and respect spiritual faith will not embrace a person who has committed human rights violations. Bo has already been sued in the United Kingdom, Poland, Romania, Russia, the United States, Peru, and Chile. The moment he steps outside of China, he is faced with the risk of being expelled back to China, arrested, or even tried in court.

Those that actively participate in the persecution of Falun Gong believe that their power is strong, or that the outside world doesn't know what evil deeds they've done, so that they can shirk the responsibilities of the persecution. However, the fact that Bo Xilai couldn't come to North America to visit, and that the Canadian Prime Minister openly raised the issue of Falun Gong to the Chinese government, should send an alarm to the CCP officials who believe that their power is endless, the police, and the public who are still unclear. They need to cease persecuting the innocent and violating the principles of heaven. Otherwise, they will eventually have to pay for all they've done.

In March 2003, Fawanghuihui, a website that monitors the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong, submitted to the United Nations a list of over 10,000 officials from the 610 Office, police, and other people involved in the persecution. If these people leave China, they may be sued at any time. In January 2004, 45 CCP officials, 610 leaders, government officials, and labor camp staff were placed on a list to be monitored by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. In March 2004, the Friends of Falun Gong and the International Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong submitted to the United States government a list of 102 top perpetrators of the persecution including Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing, Zhou Yongkang, Li Lanqing, and Wang Maolin. The organizations requested that the US government ban these people from entering the United States. Immigration laws in the United States stipulate that if a foreign government official has participated in serious violation of religious freedom in the last two years, the officials and their families cannot enter the United States.

Karmic retribution from heaven is bound to happen. Thanks to the long-term peaceful appeals and truth-clarification by Falun Gong practitioners, the power of justice in the international community is being solidified. It can be forecast that there will be broad based, deep, and systematic investigation related to all crimes, individuals, and organizations who participated in the persecution against Falun Gong. Even today, former members of the Nazi Party are being tracked down and arrested. Those who commit crimes against innocent Falun Gong practitioners will meet with the same result. No matter how far they travel, sooner or later, the persecutors will be found and investigated, unless they stop what they are doing immediately and try to make up for the damage they've caused. All those that participate in the persecution should see the situation clearly, stop helping to commit evil acts, and use this precious time to make up for the losses.

Forsake Darkness and Come into the Light -- on Hu Jintao's Visit to North America

(Clearwisdom.net) The Chinese Communist Party has been persecuting Falun Gong for more than six years. During the past six years, millions of Falun Dafa practitioners have withstood the brutal persecution and vicious slander from the CCP and Jiang's group; they made tremendous sacrifices to clarify the truth to people and to spread Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to all corners of the earth. People have felt the profound compassion of Falun Dafa.

We Dafa practitioners in Liaoning Province witnessed the facial disfigurement and murder of Gao Rongrong at the hands of the Shenyang City police, as well as the torture-caused paralysis of practitioners Qu Hui and Wang Ju from Dalian City at the Dalian Labor Camp. Their bodies are atrophied. Nearly 100 Dafa practitioners from Liaoning Province have been tortured to death. The perpetrators at the notorious Masanjia Labor Camp threw 18 female practitioners into male cells. So far, 325 practitioners have been tortured to death in Liaoning Province, representing 11.9% of the total death toll of 2,728 in the nation.

Jiang Zemin started this persecution, and the CCP mobilized all of the nation's resources to carry it out. The heavens will eliminate the CCP for its unforgivable crimes.

At Hu Jintao's visit to the U.S. and Canada, we, the Dafa practitioners in Liaoning Province, give him the following advice: "History is endowing you with an opportunity to choose your future. We hope you can make the final choice between good and evil. The opportunities and time are limited. Hu Jintao, if you can awaken, if you cherish this opportunity and make the right decision, it will be the biggest blessing for yourself and for the Chinese people. This is the only way to save yourself. We hope Hu Jintao can think of the greater picture, forsake darkness and come into the light. Bring Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing, Zhou Yongkang to justice. Bring to justice all perpetrators responsible for the torture and murder of Dafa practitioners!"

As cultivators we have no enemies and no hatred, and we don't seek vengeance. Teacher said to us, "The only thing you have a role in is saving people" ("Teaching the Fa in the City of Chicago").

We want to offer salvation to people who do not know the truth, and we also want to offer salvation to those Party members who still have a sense of justice. We will unconditionally create opportunities for all beings to have a bright future! Compassion from Dafa practice can light up the dark and transform and renew beings at the brink of destruction.

Goodness will be rewarded and evildoing will reap its own peril. In the past few years, more and more natural and man-made disasters have hit China, all of which are a warning for the people. No one can escape heaven's justice!

We are not begging anyone, nor will we put our hope in anyone. Offering salvation to all sentient beings is Teacher's requirement for us, because it is Dafa practitioners' historic mission. We will fulfill our mission with compassion. We hope Hu Jintao can exercise prudence and think this issue over, follow heaven's will and the people's hope, to allow himself and more people enter a new path of hope and light.

We sincerely hope more people can come and learn the truth about Dafa and choose goodness over brutality and depravity, because this is an act that will affect ourselves and our posterity alike.

Facts of the Persecution

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Jiang Chenggang from Xingren County, Guizhou Province, who firmly cultivated in the practice of Falun Dafa, was abused by CCP officials for a long time. He endured numerous forms of torture in the labor camp and died on October 18, 2004.

Jiang Chenggang

Jiang Chenggang was 63 years old and an employee of the Xingren County Grain Management Bureau. He used to smoke and drink heavily, and had many diseases. After practicing Falun Dafa in April 1997, he got rid of all his bad habits, and his numerous illnesses disappeared. He followed the principles of "Truthfulness, Benevolence, and Forbearance," and was strict with himself but tolerant towards others.

After July 20, 1999, when the evil persecution of Falun Dafa started, Jiang Chenggang kept cultivating and clarifying the truth to people. He went to Beijing to appeal at the beginning of 2000, was blocked at Guiyang City by officials, and was singled out as a target in the persecution. Soon after he was arrested and taken to Zhongba Labor Camp for two years by the CCP 610 Office, he was inhumanely tortured and drugged with an unknown substance. Even after being released to go home, he still had dizziness, a blurry mind, memory loss, and drooled involuntarily.

After being released from the labor camp in September 2001, Jiang Chenggang kept cultivating and clarifying the truth by passing out flyers and posting banners. In September 2003, he was arrested by the Southwest Prefecture 610 Office and forced to go through brainwashing in Xingyi. He escaped the brainwashing center one month later, and had to become destitute and homeless in order to avoid being illegally arrested from home. He could not return home, where police were staked out, waiting for him to return home. His family was harassed constantly.

After about a year, Jiang Chenggang had no permanent living place, no food, or clothing supplies. His health was damaged in the labor camp, but got worse during this homeless period. He passed away on October 18, 2004.

Parents Sentenced to Labor Camp - Two Daughters Forced to Discontinue Their Schooling

(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa practitioners Cao Zhenqi and his wife from Changyi City, Shandong Province, have been sentenced to a labor camp for three years after being illegally arrested by police from the 610 Office. This has forced their two daughters to discontinue their studies in middle school, and their lives are now very difficult.

On May 19, 2005, Chen Xiaodong, chief of the Changyi City 610 Office, together with Ma Fusheng, director of Zhangling Township Police Station, directed six police cars and several police officers to surround Cao Zhenqi's residence. Afterwards they smashed the windows and the security door. They then forced their way into the house, and arrested Cao Zhenqi and his wife. In addition, they ransacked the house twice.

After Mr. and Mrs. Cao were arrested and detained, their two daughters, who were studying in middle school, immediately found themselves in a predicament. No one would prepare food for them, and they also couldn't afford the school tuition. As a result, they have discontinued their studies. Cao Zhenqi's parents are in their sixties and suffer from hypertension. When placed under duress, they feel dizzy and sometimes lose consciousness. Facing the grievous situation resulting from the persecution, how can they avoid anxiety? They can hardly shoulder the two children's' livelihoods, much less pay their tuition.

Chu Mengmeng, one of the two daughters, is Cao Zhenqi's stepdaughter. Her mother remarried Cao Zhenqi after her father died. Facing such a dilemma, she has returned to her grandmother's home to alleviate the burden on her step-grandparents. Her grandmother is over 70 years old, weak and prone to illness. She has lost the ability to work, and can only sigh in despair to her granddaughter. Chu Mengmeng hoped to continue her studies, but dependence on her grandmother only allows for minimal living expenses. Going to school is simply impossible for her.

In this way a perfectly good family was forced into a hopeless situation. The two children cannot go to school, cannot go back to their own home, and cannot find jobs since they have not passed the age requirement for child labor. Such situations are innumerable in China. Countless Falun Gong practitioners' families have been torn apart, and family members are killed due to their beliefs.

The Sufferings of a Family in Sichuan Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Sun Fenghua and her husband Xu Weidong are Falun Dafa practitioners from Sichuan Province. Like countless families in China who practice Falun Dafa, they have suffered persecution in recent years.

In April 2002, Ms. Su was arrested for the second time and detained at the Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp. She was not allowed to sleep for 55 consecutive days. Her husband Xu Weidong was sentenced to ten years in prison, and is detained in Guangyuan Prison. At the age of 15, their son was detained and is now homeless.

Mr. Xu began the practice of Falun Dafa in 1998. In 2000, he went to appeal in Beijing, and was escorted back to his hometown in Heilongjiang province and detained for 15 days. After going back to Sichuan province, his boss tried to force him to write a guarantee letter to renounce Falun Dafa. Mr. Xu, however, refused to do so and as a result, he was not allowed to continue working. Mr. Xu and his wife had to rely on selling vegetables for a living. The police officers harassed them constantly. One night, at around midnight, a group of police officers surrounded, broke into and illegally searched their home. To avoid further harassment, the family of three was forced to leave home. Their son at that time was only 14 years old and lost the opportunity to go to school.

1) 15-year-old Son Detained and Homeless

In April 2001, Ms. Sun was arrested while at the home of a fellow practitioner in Yongning Township, Wenjiang District, Sichuan Province. Two police officers used spiked clubs to brutally beat her legs and arms until there were dark blue bruises all over. The officers also hit her feet with the clubs until she lost consciousness. In the evening, Ms. Sun and another practitioner were sent to Wenjiang County and detained. After ten minutes of detention, the police officers interrogated her and asked if she recognized the people on a photo. Ms. Sun said no and was then transferred to the Tianfu Township. There, a police officer pulled her hair, knocked her down to the ground, and kicked and punched her. Then, she was sent to the detention center and detained for more than 40 days.

On April 30, 2002, at around 4 am, Ms. Sun and her son were arrested and brought to the Wenjia Police Station. At daybreak, Chengdu police officers interrogated them. One policewoman said, "Just say you will not practice Falun Gong anymore, and you'll be released. Otherwise, your son will also be punished."

In the evening, Ms. Sun was sent to a detention center in Chengdu City, while her son was sent to Panzhihua City, located 600 km south of Chengdu. At the detention center, Ms. Sun was injected with some kind of fluid everyday. As a result, her hands could not take any more injections.

At the age of 15, Ms. Sun's son was detained for 10 days before being released. Afterwards, he had to take care of himself. Although he suffered much, Ms. Sun's son was able to overcome the hardships.

2) Deprived of sleep for 55 days at the Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp

On June 10, 2002, after being illegally sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp, Ms. Sun was transferred to the Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp. Anyone who clarifies the truth of Falun Dafa there is tortured. Once, after a practitioner shouted, "Falun Dafa Is Good," two men stuffed her mouth with rags and handcuffed her with her arms encircling a big tree. Determined practitioners are forced to work and march under the baking sun, and are not allowed to talk to each other. If practitioners refuse to cooperate, the guards forced criminal detainees to drag them along the ground. One day, Ms. Sun was dragged to cell No. 9.

Many determined practitioners have been locked in solitary confinement in cell No. 9. After a few days in the cell, guards forced Ms. Sun to stand up all night. She was also monitored by three criminal detainees. For 24 hours a day, she was not allowed to sleep, and the standing caused her legs to swell up. When she asked to sit down, the guards told her, "If you want to sit down, you have to write the guarantee statements to give up Falun Dafa." After the guards left, Ms. Sun asked the criminal detainees who monitored her to let her sit down. However, they said, "They arranged this. If we allow you to sit down, we'll be reprimanded and our term will be extended."

After standing for several days and nights, Ms. Sun could not support herself anymore. She fell down and lost consciousness several times. During the day, she was forced to stand in the small room. In the evening, she was forced to stand in the courtyard for the whole night. Sometimes, the monitors would beat her. She became so weak that she could not even carry a small bowl of water. Ms. Sun was also not allowed to bath. As a result, her hair became all tangled up and she smelled very bad.

Each morning after breakfast, the criminal detainees carried a big bucket of water and forced everyone to drink a cup of water. Otherwise, they would be force-fed. Practitioner Ms. Jiang Xianfeng refused to drink and was force-fed until her face turned pale. One practitioner could not hold her bladder and urinated into her washing bowl. A criminal detainee saw the scene, and went up stairs and beat the practitioner until she lost consciousness.

In 2003, although it was Chinese New Year's Day, Ms. Sun was still forced to sit still for the whole night. Criminals took turns monitoring her. Some of them were kindhearted and allowed her to sleep for a while. At around 4 a.m. on the first day of Chinese New Year, Ms. Sun was finally allowed to go upstairs to sleep. Until that day, she had not slept for 55 days and her body was in great pain. Although she was allowed to sleep, she had to get up at 6 am.

3). Mr. Xu Weidong Suffers in Guangyuan Prison

During her detention, Ms. Sun did not know what happened to her son or husband. Only after she was released on January 5, 2005 did she learn about her husband's 10-year prison sentence.

In order to survive, Ms. Sun found a job and started working, even though she was still in pain. After receiving her first month's salary, Ms. Sun went to visit her husband at Guangyuan Prison. The prison guards claimed that her resident registration identification card was fake and did not allow her to see her husband. They only allowed her a phone call. At work, because she gave out cards to her coworkers that had "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" written on them, she was fired.

With orders from the Sichuan Province Forced Labor Camp Bureau, practitioners imprisoned at Guangyuan Prison are suffering another round of persecution. On April 12, 2005, practitioner Ming Chengjun was beaten. Practitioner Lin Jun was beaten by prison guard Deng Peixin. On May 11, 2005, prison guards Tang Bin, Wang Yijian and others beat practitioners Ming Chengjun, Zhang Rui and others. They were also forced to do hard labor for a long period of time. On May 12, the guards forced practitioners to wear the prison uniform, and on May 13, to do hard labor. Mr. Xu Weidong refused to cooperate and as a result, guard Wang Bin handcuffed him and let him get drenched in the rain for two hours. Prison guards Chen Liang, Wang Bin, Zhou Guangyong, and He Tao stripped off Mr. Xu Weidong's clothes, handcuffed him to a steel door, and forced him to wear the prison uniform. Then they coerced criminal detainees Ma Shiying and Su Xiaoping to drag Mr. Xu to the sports field for roll call. Mr. Wei Yi, a 63-year-old practitioner from Xichang City, was forced to sift sand under the baking sun for a long period of time. Two to three criminal detainees monitor one practitioner 24 hours a day at the prison.

Ms. Gao Yan Exposes Brutal Persecution after Leaving Labor Camp

(Clearwisdom.net) After she left the Sichuan Province Women's Labor Camp, practitioner Ms. Gao Yan wrote a letter to the Minghui Website (the Chinese version of Clearwisdom) on June 15, exposing the savage tortures against Falun Dafa practitioners. She was sent to labor camps and mental hospitals numerous times and was cruelly tortured, but she remained determined in her belief. We publish her letter here to help further the efforts of practitioners around the world to end the persecution.

My name is Gao Yan, and I am a Dafa practitioner from Longchang County, Sichuan Province. I obtained Dafa on November 16, 1998. After April 25, 1999, the local police and personnel from the 610 Office often harassed me, ransacked my home and extorted money from me. I was sent to a mental hospital three times and held for 130 days. I was held at a detention center twice for 170 days. I was held at a Transport Center twice and was sent to a labor camp twice and held for one year and three years, respectively. The 610 Office members extorted 25,000 yuan from me and charged me more than 5,000 yuan for expenses incurred at the mental hospital, a total of over 30,000 yuan. My husband and I divorced during the persecution. During the past six years I was physically and mentally devastated. I want to present my firsthand experience for the world to see. I ask the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong to investigate my persecution at the hands of the Chinese Communist Party and bring the perpetrators to justice. I also hope that international organizations will learn the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong happening in China.

After April 25, 1999, a fellow practitioner and I planned to appeal to the county Party Committee and clarify the truth about Dafa. Officials from the county Anti-Pornography Committee arrested us and held us in isolation for a few hours. They threatened to execute me and tried to force me to hand over my Dafa books.

Between September 10, 1999, and January 5, 2000, Song Dewen, the head of the Police Section at my work unit, approached me at work, along with my superior, and threatened me. They also threatened to deny my son, Tong Yuanjie, the right to attend a top-tier middle school. They withheld my salary and fired me. They also threatened my husband, and as a result he often beat me.

On January 5, 2000, several officers from No. 1 Police Station in Changlong County threatened me at work and told me to write a "guarantee statement" to promise that I would never appeal. I firmly refused. One male police officer waved a pair of handcuffs before my eyes, and female police officer Qian Lanying kept intimidating me. I clarified the truth to them. They brought the head of my husband's work unit and told me to relinquish my home and office keys. I thought, "My life belongs to Dafa. I trust Teacher with everything I have." I had no fear. They took me to a detention center and ordered me to sign an arrest warrant and submit my fingerprints. I said, "Why are you detaining me? Why is the column 'reason for arrest' empty on the arrest warrant?" One official said, "I haven't figured out what to charge you with." I was held at the detention center. My husband was then out of town on an errand, and my son was only 14 years old.

Between January 5 and March 27, 2000, officials from the county's 610 Office and my husband came to me many times. My husband pressured me to give up Dafa, and he also beat me. My son and other family members tried to persuade me to give up Dafa. Ruan Changan, the former assistant at the Longchang County Dafa practice site, betrayed Dafa. He wrote me a letter and tried to deceive me. I firmly believed in Teacher and persisted in my faith. Before the Chinese New Year, they brought in my husband and told him to promise for me in my presence that I would no longer practice Falun Gong. They told me to not say anything. I knew it was a ploy, and I firmly refused to cooperate with them.

At the detention center I clarified the truth to the inmates on a daily basis, and soon they learned about and believed in Dafa. A girl told me her mother also practiced Falun Gong. Someone said, "If I had known I would receive karmic retribution for doing bad things, I would never have done them." Some inmates studied the Fa and did the exercises with me. One day the head of the detention center patrolled the cells. He ordered for me to be shackled for a week for doing the Dafa exercises.

On March 27, 2000, the police, my work place superiors, and personnel from the county 610 Office went to my husband and then came to me. They told me, "Your work unit paid 4,800 yuan to bail you out. We are here to take you to a hospital for a routine examination." I refused to go, and my husband also didn't like the idea. They put me in a car and drove me from the detention center directly to a mental hospital, where I was force-fed drugs and injected with large doses of steroids. Three days later my husband came to the hospital. The doctor told him that the 610 Office dictated that no one was allowed to see me and that the doctor and nurses had to monitor my every move. They stopped my husband outside the ward. Other patients heard that he was looking for me and told me about it. My body was so severely swollen that I was shaky and dizzy and could not stand still. I held onto the window frame and called out for my husband. He came in and looked past me because he couldn't recognize me. When I told him, "I'm Gao Yan," he was shocked. He couldn't believe his eyes because just a few days before I was young and slim. He cried.

When Liang Cheng from the 610 Office came to see me, someone asked, "Why did you send Gao Yan to a mental hospital?" Liang Cheng answered, "We simply have to destroy her will." I said, "I'm rock-solid. You can't destroy me."

In late May my husband was injured in a motor accident, and the 610 Office agreed to let me go home to take care of him. My husband was still on crutches when he and my superior from work filled out the paperwork for me to be released from the hospital. I had been tortured at the hospital for more than 60 days and was charged over 1,000 yuan in "hospital fees."

On July 15, 2000, several fellow practitioners and I went to Beijing to appeal. The police, my superior from work, and county 610 Office personnel arrested us at a Beijing train station. We were forced to take a train back the same day. Police officer Qian Lanying extorted about 2,000 yuan from us on the train. We held a group hunger strike to protest the persecution on the train. When we arrived in Longchang County, I was sent back to the same mental hospital. Practitioners Lan Zhujiang, Yu Bin and Wang Youbi were detained along with me. We continued the hunger strike that lasted 13 days. The 610 Office extorted a 5,000-yuan "escorting fee" from each of our families. They interrogated us many times. On July 31, persons from the 610 Office lied and told us we would be released on August 1, which did not happen.

On September 8, the 610 Office people put me in a special car and drove me to Sichuan Province Women's Labor Camp in Zizhong. They hoped the collaborators would convince me to give up Dafa. I said, "They [the collaborators] betrayed Teacher and Dafa." The perpetrators from the 610 Office were disappointed. They sent me to a detention center for the second time without even issuing an arrest warrant. I was charged over 1,000 yuan in "hospital fees" once again.

In mid-December my work unit gave me some money and then fired me. When the 610 Office people learned that I had some money, they set a 20,000-yuan bail, which had to be paid before they would let me go through the employment procedures. My mother and husband borrowed money from many people. In the end I had permission to go to my work unit to take care of the paperwork.

After I clarified the truth to him, my husband realized that the people from the 610 Office were violating the law and persecuting me. He went to a lawyer friend and asked him to file a lawsuit for me, but the friend refused. He said, "I wouldn't dare to fight for your wife, no matter how much you paid me. Whoever defends Falun Gong loses his practice. It's stated in a 'red-tag' document from the central government."

On January 19, 2001, my husband went to work for a while and then came home. He told me he wanted a divorce. He cried. He was a Party member, our son was about to take the college entrance exam, and the 610 Office personnel were forcing him to pressure me into giving up Dafa, saying that otherwise, our son would not be allowed to take the test. He beat me, and his parents and sister said, "Break her legs if she tries to practice Falun Gong." I calmly clarified the truth to him and was understanding and accepting toward him. I thought I would be OK with it if he chose to divorce me. Officials at the county Civil Administration Bureau said to me, "The Chinese New Year is almost here. Why are you getting a divorce? You would need to get a certificate from the Street Party Committee for us to process it." Because we couldn't get a divorce at the Civil Administration Bureau, my husband suggested that we write a divorce agreement. I said, "OK. I know the '610 Office' has ransacked our home so many times and they harass you everyday; you've had enough. Maybe you'll have some peace after I leave, but you should know right from wrong!"

In the afternoon on January 20, Ye Lin, Liang Cheng and others from the 610 Office came to my home to arrest me. My husband was very angry and said to them, "I always believed it when the news and TV programs said the police shed their blood and made sacrifices to protect the people and the country, but now my eyes are opened. You are the worst!" Ye Lin immediately explained, "It's an order from our superiors; we are just following orders, and we can't do anything about it." They took me away. I saw the document that illegally sentenced me to one year of forced labor was dated December 4, 2000, which means it was written before my family paid the 20,000-yuan bail.

On January 20, 2001, I was assigned to a team at the labor camp. Right after we got up in the morning, the guards forced us to raise our arms above our heads and stand against the wall for the whole day. We stood this way for three days. Many practitioners fainted; their faces were pallid; their hands and feet were swollen; and some even cried. Han Guangrong was really thirsty but was not given any water, so she drank a little water dripping from the inmates' underwear hanging on a line. Guard Zhou beat practitioner Luo Meng and forced her to stand beside a courtyard wall. The guards often shocked us with electric batons and arbitrarily extended our sentences. After the false self-immolation incident took place in Tiananmen Square, the guards and inmates constantly tortured us. Once, when guards Zhang Xiaofang and Liao Xiaolin shocked practitioners Peng Shiqiong and Han Guangrong, I saw the bolts of blue light flashing across Peng Shiqiong's face, accompanied by cracking sounds. Peng Shiqiong said, "We have Teacher and Dafa. There is nothing to be afraid of."

In early April 2001, my husband brought his lawyer friend Liu, a court judge, and a woman secretary. They held a trial in the labor camp and announced our divorce. The judge said to me, "Gao Yan, your husband Tong Kaihua paid a 600-yuan litigation fee. You have to agree to divorce, whether you want to or not." My husband cried so hard his eyes were red and swollen. He didn't want a divorce but had no choice. He said, "What can I do? Our son has to go to college, and my parents are old and can't go through all this with us. They often phone me and blame me for making them suffer, so divorce is the only option for me." I said, "Don't cry. I respect your decision." The judge immediately said, "Now divide your property." I said, "Just give it all to him. It's not easy for him to take care of our son." The legal documents and certificate soon arrived in the mail.

On January 9, 2002, I was released from the labor camp and lived with my mother in Neijiang.

On May 13, I returned to Longchang County and rented a room in a fellow practitioner's home. On June 20 the police ransacked my mother's home in Neijiang, arrested me, and sent me directly to a transport center without any due process of law. I went on a second hunger strike at the transport center. The guards at the center handcuffed me to a metal gate. Four days later I was sent to a mental hospital for the third time. I was hogtied on a metal bed from early morning until 8 p.m. or 10 p.m. I received injections and IV infusions while I was tied up. I have a receipt from the No. 2 Mental Hospital in Neijiang. One 400-yuan charge was labeled "protective medication fee." The discharge date is July 17. Another receipt has the official stamp of the Political and Administration Section at Sichuan Province Women's Labor Camp, also dated July 17. The Longchang County 610 Office sent me directly to the labor camp from the mental hospital.

The labor camp hospital gave me a physical exam and refused to take me. The personnel from the 610 Office put pressure on the labor camp authorities, who eventually took me after charging the 610 Office 500 yuan. I had been on a hunger strike for over 20 days by then. I had lost control of my legs because of the large amount of drugs I had been given and also because I had been tied up for days. An inmate carried me on his back to Division 8. Luo Wei, the head of Division 8 said to me, "The police paid us 500 yuan, but the labor camp administration only charged you 200 yuan, so you have a 300-yuan credit." Later, when I asked a guard about the 300 yuan, he told me, "It's gone." Three years later my mother told me that the 610 Office had somehow robbed her of the money.

My landlord was arrested for renting to me. He was held at the transport center and was released after being fined 5,000 yuan. Another fellow practitioner was sentenced to three years of forced labor for introducing me to my landlord.

On August 21, 2002, I was transferred to Team 8, which specialized in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Right after I entered the gate, I saw several practitioners handcuffed to trees with their hands behind them. They had tape covering their mouths. All of the practitioners at Team 8 were forced to watch Dafa-slandering VCDs, and several practitioners were handcuffed to the trees for shouting things like, "Falun Dafa is great!"

During the 16^th Party Congress, the guards took turns sitting outside our cell and escalated the persecution. They beat us, force-fed us water, tied and hung us up, stripped off our pants and underwear, and a group of guards savagely beat us. They didn't allow us to go to the restroom and forced us to drink urine. They didn't allow us to sleep or take a shower for a very long time and forced us to stand for long periods of time. They handcuffed us and shocked us with electric batons.

Once we heard that people from Australia had come to the labor camp to find out if a reputed water dungeon really existed. It was noontime, and we were being forced to stand as usual. We heard group head Li saying, "They voluntarily stand like this." Peng Shiqiong and Luo Meng immediately said, "No, we don't want to stand like this." The inmates jumped up and brutally beat Peng Shiqiong, Luo Meng and me. I accidentally crashed into the railing when they were beating Luo Meng and was immediately taken to the hospital. I later saw charges for the emergency treatment in my account. When I was in the ER, Peng Shiqiong and Luo Meng were hung from trees in the courtyard until I returned to the labor camp. Before dawn we were sent to a small room. Peng Shiqiong had one hand cuffed to a back window; Luo Meng had both hands cuffed to a front window, and I stood by the wall. We were not allowed to sleep for 15 days and nights. I lost count of the number of times I fainted. I came to only when the inmates kicked my face with their hard boots or stepped on my ears. My head was covered with bumps, and I felt as if my skull was shrouded in a sheet of blood.

Once the group heads ordered us to read a Dafa-slandering book. When we refused to read the book, the inmates beat us until we were on the brink of death. Inmate Chen Qi hung and tied practitioner Tao Yuqin to the bed. Tao Yuqin soon started sweating profusely and her face was pallid. Team head Li looked at her eyes with a flashlight to see if her pupils were dilated. They let her down when she had but a breath left. Cell heads Deng Ailing, Li Hong and Chen Qi are very cruel and they had no scruples when torturing people. When they force-fed us water, we almost choked to death. Team head Li screamed, "I'll cause you so much pain that you'll drown in your own blood." Guards Yang and Jiang often threatened us with electric batons.

Luo Meng, Peng Shiqiong, Wang Huiying and I were held in a small room. Wang Huiying also refused to read the Dafa-slandering book. They crossed her legs and tied them up for many days. She had to relieve herself in her clothing. It was winter and she had to sit on the floor, and the flesh on her buttocks started to rot. The labor camp doctor, Chen, came daily to change the dressing for Peng Shiqiong and Wang Huiying.

Before the 2003 Chinese New Year, Hai, the Longchang County Party Committee secretary, and Ye Lin, from the 610 Office, came to the forced labor camp to give me "New Year's greetings" on behalf of the Longchang County Party Committee and the county police department. Ye Lin asked right after we met, "Gao Yan, what's that big bump on your face?" I told him that Team head Li had hit me. Ye Lin introduced me to secretary Hai. I clarified the truth to Hai and told him, "It's because of your predestined relationship with Falun Gong that we are having this conversation. Make sure you read the book Zhuan Falun. It's a good book, and you'll regret it for the rest of your life if you don't read it. I'm taking a big risk by telling you this, because I cherish your life." The guards and the inmates from my cell were watching me the whole time. They made me go back to Team 8 when they heard me clarifying the truth to Hai. After I returned to the team, the inmates took turns beating me. They beat me three times and didn't stop each time until I collapsed. They also refused to let me go to the restroom or sleep.

The labor camp authorities issued a two-week deadline for Team 8 to "reform" Falun Gong practitioners who remained determined. Painful screams could be heard from all the cells day and night. Collaborators Yao Jianhua, Qiao Jianqun and Huang Xuefen encouraged the inmates to beat us and wrote "repentance statements" for us without our consent. Collaborator Wang Dong choked practitioner Jiang Xianfeng's neck with his hands and he grabbed her hair. Several other perpetrators joined in and pressed Jiang Xianfeng's finger on the repentance statement. Huang Xuefang wrote a statement for me and read it to me. I said, "You are shameless!" She said, "If you don't give us your fingerprint, we'll make you." I said, "Why don't you cut my finger off so you can get as many fingerprints as you want?" Once, Wang Dabi, Li Ruiying and several others tried to reform me by force. Li Ruiying grabbed my hair and banged my head against a wall, and Wang Dabi kicked me with his boots. When they sent me back to the small room, the inmates were shocked and said, "Even the collaborators beat people!" Li Ruiying ordered the inmates to force me to stand. The team heads extended my sentence by 45 days because I refused to be reformed.

In 2004, the team heads assigned us work quotas. Detainees in Team 8 mostly did knitting. Determined Dafa practitioners had to knit more than 0.9 kg of yarn per month. We got up at 5:00 a.m. If we finished our assigned work, we could go to sleep at midnight after the guards finish checking the cells. Elderly practitioners who couldn't finish the assigned work quota could sleep for only three to four hours a day. My eyesight deteriorated drastically from the nearly 20 hours of work a day. Practitioner Liu Fengxia and I suffered from severe neck pain. The doctor said the muscles and tendons in our necks were stressed from our heads being lowered too long.

Determined practitioners had the worst food in the labor camp. We were not allowed to buy food such as instant noodles from the canteen. My whole body was swollen from malnutrition by the time I left the labor camp.

My sentence expired on June 13, 2005, but officials from Longchang County picked me up on June 15, and I was held for two extra days.

Experiences of Practitioner Mr. Zhang Xiaodong from Lanzhou, Gansu Province, Who Died in Detention in 2003

Mr. Zhang Xiaodong was from Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province. After graduating from college, he joined the Gansu Aluminum Company. He started to practice Falun Dafa in December 1998. He loved reading Zhuan Falun and read it over and over again. He spent a lot of time studying the Fa and he had many profound understandings of the Fa.

Since July 20 1999, the media controlled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started its propaganda campaign against Falun Gong. Even in this environment filled with lies, slander and stress, Mr. Zhang didn't get lost at all. He immediately decided to go to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. During the National Day holiday in 1999, he went to Tiananmen Square. He shouted, "Falun Dafa is great!" Several police officers illegally arrested him and detained him in Beijing for seven days. After that, he was taken back to Lanzhou and detained for a few more days.

Mr. Zhang then went back to work. He continued to clarify the truth to people. Initially he distributed truth-clarification materials and hung banners that read "Falun Dafa is great" in the suburbs. He often left for the suburbs at night and came back in the morning. Meanwhile, he explained the facts of Falun Gong to each and every one of his coworkers.

In 2000, Zhang Xiaodong submitted a statement of his intention to quit the CCP to his company's Standing CCP Committee. Many people couldn't understand his action. He said, "I am a Falun Gong practitioner. I have to quit the CCP because the CCP is brutally persecuting Falun Gong. Therefore, I can't allow myself to be a member of the CCP."

His employer refused to pay him his full salary because he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He only got 200 yuan as his monthly income. Mr. Zhang still tried to minimize his living expenses so he could buy Dafa books for others to promote the Fa.

Someone snuck into the local practitioners' group, claiming he was interested in learning how to practice Falun Gong. Mr. Zhang introduced Dafa to him. A few days later, this person led police to Mr. Zhang's home and they took Mr. Zhang away. Mr. Zhang kept sending forth strong righteous thoughts and quietly recited "Falun Dafa is good" and "Eliminate the evil" on the way to the police substation. When a policeman tried to kick Mr. Zhang, he always ended up kicking the floor even though he aimed at Mr. Zhang's leg! That night, two officers were assigned to stay with Mr. Zhang to monitor him. The room next door was an interrogation room with modern equipment. On one side there was a locked door to get outside the building and another locked door to get out of the yard. There was a reception room beside the yard door. It should have been very difficult to escape.

Zhang Xiaodong kept sending forth righteous thoughts. When the two officers went to sleep, he took the chance to leave the room. He quickly went out of the building. When he reached the yard door, he simply asked the person in the reception room to open the door for him. The receptionist opened the door for him without asking questions. He then left. The police couldn't figure out how he was able to escape.

After that, Mr. Zhang traveled between a few townships to clarify the truth and help people know the wonderfulness of Dafa even though he barely had enough money to feed himself. Meanwhile, the police were looking for him. They deceived and tricked Zhang Xiaodong's family, who don't practice Dafa. His family helped the police find Mr. Zhang, and the police took him away.

His family eagerly waited for Mr. Zhang Xiaodong to return. However, Mr. Zhang was illegally sentenced to six years of imprisonment. During his last two years in prison, Mr. Zhang suffered all kinds of torture and abuse. On October 24, 2003, Mr. Zhang died in the No. 1 Detention Center (the Xiguoyuan Detention Center) at Lanzhou. He was extremely thin and looked like a skeleton.

Five Falun Dafa Practitioners Die Due to Persecution

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Wang Shize was born on April 2, 1946. He was a resident of Bazhou District, Bazhong City, Sichuan Province. He was a self-employed handicraft worker. Mr. Wang began to cultivate Falun Dafa in 1997. After the persecution started in July 1999, he remained firm in his cultivation. On April 4, 2001, the persecutors illegally sentenced him to two years of forced labor and detained him in Bazhou District Detention Center. Because he refused to give up his cultivation and did not cooperate with the persecutors in the detention center, the police beat him many times. On January 29, 2002, staff member He from the State Security Team of Bazhou District Police Department kicked Mr. Wang's head and body several times with his leather shoes. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Wang Shize passed away. Later the perpetrators lied about the incident, claiming that Mr. Wang died of a stroke when he was using the restroom. They also had the nerve to ask Mr. Wang's family members for the funeral expenses.

Mr. Jin Liang was in his 40s. He was an employee of Huzhou City Police in Sichuan Province. In 1996, Mr. Jin began to cultivate Falun Dafa while living in Yichang City, Hubei Province. He returned to Sichuan Province in 1998. After July 20, 1999, Mr. Jin went to appeal and clarify the truth about Falun Gong. For this, he was persecuted by staff from the local police station. While in Luzhou Detention Center, the leader among the inmates beat him. In 2000, Mr. Jin organized the local practitioners to study the Fa together. He also went to appeal again to clarify the truth. As a result, staff at the local police station persecuted him again. Mr. Jin was forced to leave his home, and he went to Chengdu City. Around 2002, he suffered from some kind of illness and passed away shortly afterward.

Xu Fengshu was a 73-year-old resident of Xinfa Village, Qingshan Town, Yushu City, Jilin Province. Because Xu's two daughters also practiced Falun Gong, the persecutors illegally arrested them. The police harassed Xu at her home frequently, which seriously harmed her mental health. In July 2004, Xu was diagnosed with cancer. Xu passed away on March 16, 2005.

Ms. Wang Donglan, 60, lived on Donggongyuan Street, Xinfu District, Fushun City, Liaoning Province. She suffered from diabetes and lost her eyesight. In the fall of 1998, she began to practice Falun Gong, after which her condition improved. She became a happy person. After July 20, 1999, her husband (also a practitioner) went to Beijing to appeal. The persecutors illegally detained him, fined him, and ransacked their home. Persecutors from the community center, local police station, and their work units went to their home and harassed them many times, which aggravated her condition. Ms. Wang passed away on April 14, 2001.

Ms. Wang Fengqin, 62, was a retired teacher in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. In 2000, she went to Beijing twice to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong and to clarify the truth. The police arrested her many times and tortured her brutally. As a result, she became emaciated. In 2001, Ms. Wang was released for medical treatment. She passed away in July 2005.

VANCOUVER -- Supporters of a free Tibet, independent Taiwan and Falun Gong will get one more chance to dog Chinese President Hu Jintao during his 24-hour whirlwind visit to Vancouver, the final stop on his first trip to North America.

The President's tour, which began in Ottawa last week and then took him to the United Nations and Mexico, has been low key, with an emphasis on trade agreements and economic partnerships.

But at nearly every stop, protesters have shown up to urge better protection of human rights in China. And Mr. Hu will probably see more demonstrations in Vancouver when he arrives this afternoon. Yesterday, about two dozen Falun Gong demonstrators gathered outside the Chinese consulate in anticipation of Mr. Hu's arrival and intend to protest all Hu events, as they did during his time in Ottawa and Toronto. The spiritual group is banned in China.

Mr. Hu returns to his homeland tomorrow. But before he goes, Susan Fang is hoping he or some of the politicians surrounding him will help her parents.

Fang Yaobing and Xiong Fengying, followers of Falun Gong living in Vancouver, were ordered to leave Canada by Sept. 30 after their refugee claim was rejected.

Ms. Fang said she has no hope that Mr. Hu will heed her pleas to allow her parents to stay in Canada rather than risk persecution in China. "But maybe some of the politicians who are here can help us," she said in an interview. "I strongly urge the President to stop the persecution."

Last month, Hu Xiaoping, a Falun Gong member since the 1990s who came to Canada to care for her dying sister in Montreal, was deported to Beijing after her refugee claim was denied.

Mr. Hu is to meet with B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell this evening, and then attend a private dinner with western business and political leaders at the Pan Pacific Hotel, whose hosts are Senator Jack Austen and David Emerson, the federal Minister of Industry. Tomorrow, Mr. Hu will be feted at a luncheon given by Prime Minister Paul Martin at the Westin Bayshore.

CP: Falun Gong protesters ask B.C. premier to give help request to China's president

VANCOUVER (CP) - A handful of Falun Gong protesters gathered in front of the Chinese consulate in Vancouver on Thursday to ask for political help for their people.

The group wants B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell to hand a letter to China's President Hu Jintao when he arrives in Vancouver on Friday. The letter asks the Chinese government to stop what they say is the persecution of thousands of Falun Gong followers.

Spokesperson Sophia Bronwen says they realize Hu inherited the political situation.

She says they're hoping that Hu's heart will be moved when he sees the democratic example of Canada.

Bronwen says Hu could be like former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev leading his country to dramatic political reform.

B.C. is the last Canadian stop for the Chinese leader who has spent a week visiting Ottawa, Toronto and Niagara Falls.

Safeguarding the Dignity of Dafa When Associating with "Outstanding Figures" in Society

(Clearwisdom.net) My use of the phrase "outstanding figures" does not carry any complimentary or derogatory meanings. I use the phrase to refer to those who have a relatively strong influence in the society, including those who have a strong sense of justice. During Dafa practitioners' truth-clarification, we are bound to make contact with these people. When we associate with them, we should base our views on the Fa, and always use the principles of the Fa to guide our words and actions. Only by doing so can we achieve the effect of clarifying the truth. If we conduct ourselves with human mentalities, the consequence may be that we have a negative impact.

For example, one writer mentioned such an incident. One time a Dafa practitioner complained to this writer that none of the intellectuals in Mainland China had stood up to speak out against the persecution. The practitioner further said that only this writer had written some articles against the persecution. This writer thought that the practitioner had said this to him to gain his approval. The writer then asked the practitioner where he was when the democracy movement activists were being persecuted (this was just the gist of the dialogue, not the exact words).

I think that when the practitioner said those words, perhaps he was only pointing out a fact. However, according to the writer's reaction, the practitioner might have two kinds of human attachments, which caused the writer to react negatively. First, the practitioner might have the mentality of relying on everyday people and of complaining about others. He was wishing the intellectuals in Mainland China would speak out, and he felt indignant about the intellectuals remaining silent. The fact is that Dafa practitioners are validating the Fa and saving people, not begging everyday people for help. Everyday people's compassionate words and actions are laying a good foundation for their own future, and we should do our best to create an environment for them to do well. How they do things are their own choice, and we should not become attached to what they do.

Second, the writer thought that the practitioner praised him to get his approval. This practitioner might not have this mentality or attachment. Still, we should look within ourselves to see if we have the mentality of intentionally making others feel better about us when we communicate with others. Being Dafa practitioners, we should always follow the standard for Dafa practitioners, and by doing so, our compassionate energy will naturally emanate. If we try to use human mentalities to curry favor or engage in exchanges of interests with others, we will get the opposite effect. Dafa practitioners are compassionately saving people, rather than begging everyday people for favors or for acknowledgement.

In addition, I would like to mention the issue of us appealing for the democracy movement activists who are being persecuted. Before cultivation, we were also ordinary people and had everyday people's selfishness, so it was indeed very hard for us to step out to appeal for others. It was only after we became Dafa practitioners and when we gradually eliminated our selfishness and fear that we gained the courage to stand up to expose the evil forces' persecution of Dafa and clarify the truth. We sympathize with those who are being persecuted. We have also tried our best to let people know about their suffering.

However, as Dafa disciples during the period of Fa-rectification, we have even greater responsibilities, and everything we do is for the salvation of sentient beings and for their eternal well being. The huge price that Dafa practitioners inside and outside China have paid, especially the suffering that countless practitioners in China have experienced, are far beyond what many people could possibly imagine. It is very difficult for non-practitioners, including the democracy movement activists, to see the whole picture of the persecution unless they can let go of their personal notions and try to gain a better understanding of the issue. The democracy movement activists are engaging in politics, while Dafa disciples are not. With respect to our opposition to persecution, although Dafa practitioners and the democracy movement activists engage in similar forms of activities on the surface and are superficially doing the same thing, our resisting the persecution is what Dafa practitioners need to do only during this special historic period. Fundamentally, Dafa cultivators pursue the goal of going beyond ordinary person's birth, aging, illness, and death, knowing that the meaning of being human is assimilating ourselves to the characteristics of the universe, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Dafa practitioners are not attached to any political parties, governments, politics, or any other things in human society.

I also heard that some Dafa practitioners overseas admire a certain writer very much. This writer was even invited to attend a cultivation experience-sharing discussion that Dafa practitioners held among themselves. Of course, certain non-practitioners with righteous minds are admirable for their courage and actions. However, they are, after all, non-practitioners, and have various kinds of ordinary attachments, while we Dafa cultivators are constantly and knowingly purifying ourselves, and we are walking on the path to becoming enlightened. The basis for our being here and the motives and objectives of our doing things are above and beyond those of ordinary society. In fact, for a Dafa cultivator, whenever he admires a Dafa practitioner or a non-practitioner, he is looking at others with human notions, which reflects that he has not studied the Fa well and has not taken himself to be a Dafa practitioner in that regard.

"Safeguarding the dignity of Dafa" does not mean that we intentionally present ourselves as conceited and stay away from any worldly pursuits. As a matter of fact, being conceited or feeling inferior are two different manifestations of the same human attachment. There is nothing for us to feel conceited about; without the salvation from Master, we would still be full of karma. In the present Fa-rectification cultivation, we still need to look within ourselves at all times, so as to eliminate our attachments and bad notions.

To safeguard the dignity of Dafa, we should be very clear in our minds that we are Dafa practitioners who are here to save sentiment beings during the Fa-rectification. We should use Dafa to guide our thoughts, words, and actions at all times. By us doing so, the tremendous power of our compassion will emanate, and this is in itself saving sentient beings.

Thank you Master for the teachings which enable me to constantly purify myself through Fa study, to be aware of my own attachments and human notions, and to work hard to eliminate them.

Saving People vs. Condemning People

(Clearwisdom.net) Recently I received a copy of truth-clarifying material about the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and people withdrawing from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The name of the brochure is Shengzhou. There is one article in it entitled "Heaven Punishes Evildoers, Believe It or Not," and the subtitle is "More likely truth than fiction." A fellow practitioner told me that the person who edited the brochure wrote this article, and many copies were printed and distributed to people. He also told me that many practitioners at his Fa-study group felt this article was inappropriate, so they did not distribute it.

After reading the article carefully, I came to the conclusion that this article condemns people rather than saves people. Many practitioners at my Fa-study group felt the same way after reading it. We believe that this article can only have negative effects in validating the Fa and saving sentient beings.

The article begins with the claim that the tsunami in South Asia was a warning from gods - "Do not persecute Falun Gong, do not persecute 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance or you will die." The article further connects the tsunami with the CCP's persecuting Falun Gong. It concludes that something will happen in the second half of this year in China as a result of gods punishing the CCP.

When a practitioner asked about the significance of the massive tsunami in South Asia in "Teaching the Fa at the Western U.S. International Fa Conference," Teacher said:

"But from a lot of things you can see that much of what unfolds today and implicates mankind is the doing of old-force factors, and those things do nothing positive for people. When something happens to mankind, it has to help it learn a positive lesson, and only then can it lead people to truly see that it was gods punishing people so as to save more persons. But when the punishment is just for the sake of punishing people, it only weakens people's belief in gods. Those things done by the old-force factors do nothing positive for mankind; when people grow bad they just weed them out."

Teacher clearly pointed out that the tsunami was the doing of old-force factors. It is using evil to deal with evil and cannot serve the purpose of saving people. Teacher wants to save all beings through Fa-rectification with immeasurable mercy. As long as a being does not commit sins against Fa-rectification, it can become good and be saved. When Buddha or gods are trying to save people, they should tell people what is good for them, and they should never use threats. As Dafa disciples, we are here to assist Teacher in the Fa-rectification. We should keep a pure heart when clarifying the truth. Moreover, the persecution of Falun Gong happens mostly in China. For those people who have been poisoned by the CCP's atheism, they may not believe there is a connection between the persecution of Falun Gong and the tsunami in the Indian Ocean, so it would backfire.

In the second paragraph of the article, it predicts what would happen in China and Southeast Asia in March of the next year, and even the months of April, August, and September. It says the entire country will be in chaos. The last sentence of the paragraph is, "The CCP party members will have difficulties getting through the years of the dog and the pig (2006 and 2007). They will be punished by heaven." The entire paragraph is filled with phrases and curses from the Cultural Revolution era. Falun Dafa practitioners practice Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance. Teacher advises us to always keep a compassionate and calm mind so that we can resolve well every issue we encounter. Particularly we should be more compassionate and rational when clarifying the truth to people. The only purpose is to better save sentient beings. None of the ancient prophecies clearly specified what would happen on what date. They all use metaphors to predict that something would happen during a period of time or a year. If an everyday person reads this article, but the prediction fails, what would he think? He may think you are trying to deceive him. Would it not discredit Dafa and also harm the person?

There is a sentence in the article stating, "The CCP stinks like those people who were classified as landlords, wealthy farmers, anti-revolutionaries, the bad, and the right-wingers during the Culture Revolution. The CCP members are being condemned by people, and they feel too ashamed to be in public."

In "Teaching the Fa in the City of Chicago," Teacher said,

"I told you a long time ago that a Dafa disciple, or a cultivator, has no enemies. The only thing you have a role in is saving people, and you have nothing to do with using human means and human principles to punish or pronounce judgment on people."

As Dafa disciples, our role is to save people. How are we going to do that? We ought to follow what Teacher told us, "Validate the Fa with rationality, clarify the truth with wisdom, spread the Fa and save people with mercy." (From "Rationality")

In "Teaching the Fa at the 2005 Manhattan International Fa Conference," Teacher said:

"In other words, think about why so many high-level beings dared to take such a perilous risk and come to the Three Realms. They are gods, so how could we not save them? Didn't they come to obtain the Fa? If you look at it from another perspective, wasn't their bravery in coming here a way of validating the Fa-rectification and placing their hope in the Fa-rectification? That's why I have said that we cannot leave them behind, and that we must save them and think of ways to save them! Even though they may be confused at the moment, or they may have lost their capacity to recognize truth or reality, owing to their concepts being warped by the Party culture over time, we still have to find ways to save them."

Teacher also said in "Teaching the Fa in the City of Chicago,"

"Think about this, everyone: before you began to cultivate Dafa, many of you present here were also once fooled by that wicked Party into becoming members of it, so do you really want to bring to trial the CCP members who have been fooled by the evil? You should understand that they, too, have been deceived by the wicked CCP, and they are all sentient beings for you to save. You must make a clear distinction here."

We surely cannot use the methods or styles from the CCP's philosophy of struggle. That is not saving people, but condemning people. It is far from spreading the Fa and saving people with mercy. It can only cause misunderstanding and resistance. As a result, people may refuse to accept the truth. Wouldn't that be harming them?

During the Cultural Revolution, some people were classified as landlords, wealthy farmers, anti-revolutionaries, the bad, or the right-wingers. It is not because they were bad people or they did bad deeds. They were innocent people being persecuted by the evil CCP. How can we use such comparisons in our truth-clarifying materials? The evil CCP uses deception, coercion, and struggle to incite people against other people. The purpose is to strengthen its tyrannical rule and protect its own interests. Could we treat the members of CCP the same way?

Moreover, I have noticed recently that some overseas practitioners tended to use the legal system to punish the so-called bad people when there was resistance in clarifying the truth. Instead of looking within and further clarifying the truth to save people, practitioners want to use the quickest ordinary person's way to stop those people who are being used by the evil. These so-called bad people, however, do not really know the truth, and they are waiting for us to save them. I feel this is looking outward and not being compassionate. It is something we need to eliminate during our cultivation.

Regarding the article mentioned earlier, perhaps its author wanted to warn the people in the world that time is pressing, and they should withdraw from the CCP for their own sake. It should be done, however, in a rational manner. Our heads are filled with the CCP's culture after living under its influence for decades. I sincerely recommend that the author of the article calmly study the Fa and other lectures from Teacher in recent Fa conferences, and to carefully read the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party to eliminate the interference and all the poisonous factors in his/her mind. Then he/she will be able to better clarify the truth and save sentient beings and walk the cultivation path more righteously and steadily. Only then will he/she more effectively help Teacher in the Fa-rectification.

These are my personal understandings, please correct any thing inappropriate.

Suggestions for Clarifying the Truth to Practitioners' Families

With our efforts to clarify the truth, more and more people are awakening. But we often find a problem, namely that it is more difficult to clarify the truth to the people we are close to. Many people we don't know are willing to withdraw from the CCP, the Chinese Communist Youth League and the Young Pioneers, or are willing to read some Falun Dafa books after we explain the truth to them. Some of them even start to practice Falun Gong. But for our family members this seems very difficult. Many practitioners feel that this is a problem. We feel difficulties, especially when looking at our relatives who are missing opportunities to be saved, and sometimes we feel that there is not much we can do.

We analyzed the reasons that result in this kind of situation. First we looked inside among our fellow practitioners.

Attachments to the affections of loved one. After learning that clarifying the truth is to save people, many practitioners' first thoughts are for their family members. When their family members remain unmoved, the practitioners may become anxious and worried about them. To persuade them, the practitioner may become emphatic and raise his/her voice, but will only achieve the opposite effect. The family member may think that the practitioner has bad manners and is not kind. Some even might think that Falun Gong practitioners have bad self-discipline. They may not really disagree with Dafa to begin with, but the way the practitioner talks arouses their resistant attitude. Our emotions lead us to appear unreasonable.
Constantly stressing one's own thoughts. A fellow practitioner once spoke with others about the truth. The way he explained the truth and his reasoning had persuaded the other party. The other party said, "I accept your explanation the way you presented it and I am also clear on what you are talking about. However, when one of my relatives talked to me he gave me the impression that only they, Falun Gong practitioners, know what the truth is; all other people don't know what is going on. He kept talking and would not give us any chance to talk."
We know through learning the Fa that people's varying points of view these days have changed and they do not realize that their points of view have deviated. We need to pay attention how we should talk to them when we tell them the facts. We need to gradually lead them. We cannot talk in a way as if they don't have anything correct to say. Criticizing them is not our purpose. Our purpose in telling them the facts is to awaken their kindness and to guide them onto the path of returning towards their origin, so that they can be saved.

I often read articles written by fellow practitioners repeatedly emphasizing that we should validate Dafa instead of validating ourselves. If one keeps stressing that others are wrong so as to prove he is right, is he validating Dafa? Is he emphasizing that Dafa is tolerant? On the contrary, he is discrediting Dafa; others may think he is disturbing their lives; they may refuse to let him come to their home any more.
Not watching our behavior. When clarifying the truth to people other than friends and relatives we pay more attention to our manner of speaking. When talking to family members we may forget this and get into an argument when the family member disagrees with us. This is then followed by an escalating battle of words. This results in the other side having no interest in listening to our truth clarification. All the other side thinks of is how to get even with us, with thoughts of not letting us win to avoid losing face. Thus, the other side opposes everything we say. This cannot achieve the desired effect. It actually pushes the opponent to the opposite side. An issue of concern is that some of our relatives are strongly against Dafa. Some of this results from our own mistakes. We should pay attention to this.

We need to look inside for reasons if we find that the way we are clarifying the truth has not achieved the desired effect. In addition, are there other ways to alleviate this concern? Maybe having a fellow practitioner clarify the truth to our family while we clarify the truth to their family can achieve a better effect. The reasons are as follows:

Being bored from listening to the same line of thought. One person's understanding in one aspect sometimes remains at a certain level and the things he says can sound familiar over a period of time. When he talks over and over again with his family members they may get tired of listening. If another practitioner comes, he may explain it from a different angle, and what he says may sound different and acceptable to them; or what he talks about may happen to be the key to unlocking their thoughts; they may then accept the truth. In other words, when we cannot unlock a door with our key, we can borrow another practitioner's keys to help unlock the mental door.
Politeness. As just mentioned, when we tell the facts to our family members there is a tendency for an argument to start. If a visitor comes, the family members, out of politeness, may continue to listen. A family member may change his original attitude and point of view as long as he is willing to listen. With objective analysis of the evil nature of the CCP, of withdrawing from the CCP, the Chinese Communist Youth League and the Young Pioneers for self protection and so on, the visitor can mention at the end, "If you are standing on the side of justice and if you are compassionate, please do what is right." To show they are on the side of justice and are compassionate, many people are willing to make the right choice.

Having different people clarify the truth can be a practical method in those circumstances where many of us feel that there is not much we can do for our family members. Besides, we can also send our family members' phone numbers to the Minghui website. We can ask for help from overseas Dafa practitioners to call our family members. This will also give our family members an opportunity to learn of the widespread acceptance of Falun Gong abroad.

Practitioners Worldwide Share How They Found Dafa

How I Came to Know Falun Dafa

I came to know Falun Dafa in May 2001 in Orlando Florida. I'm originally from New York City. When I arrived in Florida it was with goals and dreams of a better life and much anxiety for change. I experienced a lot growing up in New York, both good and bad, but until I moved to Florida I never thought I'd find some real goals to achieve that would make my life take on a new meaning. It is Falun Dafa that gave my life new meaning.

Before moving to Florida I was involved in the entertainment/promotion business in New York City--my teenage dream. I was constantly seeking to make a name for myself. I often went to parties and events to "hook up" with that one person or company that would make my life the most carefree and comfortable and give me financial freedom beyond what the eye could see. Party after party I met so many people and started to realize my boyhood dream of being important was not as easy as I thought. I tried and tried, but the more I thought I was gaining a foothold on my networking, connection-based profession, the more my morals and values were slipping into the cracks of the city's pavement.

The values I based my life on were weak, and the mentally of putting a mask over my true nature by lying and taking advantage of situations and people was tearing my conscience apart. I realized at that time that it was impossible for me to be a good person as I had nothing firm to base my values on.

At one point I wanted to escape from reality by devoting myself to my art. I sold art in front of nightclubs and was in the "struggling artist" phase in life. I wanted recognition, and the more I wanted it the less obtainable it seemed. I remember once making a piece of paper with a picture of the big bronze statue on Lantau Island, Japan (the statue mentioned in Zhuan Falun by Master Li Hongzhi). Next to the picture I wrote the words, "be quiet." It wasn't my favorite art piece, but I thought it was special and never thought of selling it out of a sense of respect.

After attending an art festival one day on invitation of a friend, I decided to take a different route to my bus stop by walking through the park. That was a very good decision I made that day, and I slowly came to realize it wasn't a coincidence. As I walked through the park there were people in bright yellow suits passing out information. One young lady gave me a Falun Gong flyer as I passed. I reviewed the information as I walked slowly down the path. Then she said from a distance, "Did you know that there were people in China that are killed for practicing Falun Gong?" I stopped and walked back to her to get more information. She said that there was going to be a march through the city that day for "World Falun Dafa Day," and I was invited. I thought it was a good idea, since being from New York I participated in a lot of ethnic parades as an African American.

I also thought maybe I could get a job by participating. I thought I could be part of this group and move up in position, etc. To my surprise I found more than a job at the march that I attended for Falun Dafa Day. I found that I was actually helping people. This event was done without expectations of anyone. It totally depended on what was in your heart. This was a new concept for me. I remember World Falun Dafa day as a bright day with people who were much different from the crowd I usually hung out with. They didn't offer me a drink of alcohol, ask me to smoke with them or go to a party. Instead, they looked into my eyes when talking, accepted my views and didn't judge me. It was hard to inflate my ego in this righteous environment.

When I held the banners that read, "Stop the Persecution in China," I felt like a part of something much better and bigger than me and my small problems.

Those people in China needed my help. I thought the practitioners at this event were courageous and thoughtful. I felt honored to be part of this group of people. After the march we read Zhaun Falun and another one of Teacher's lectures. When my turn came to read I got nervous. A bead of sweat formed on my forehead because I was always told I was a slow reader and had dyslexia. I was expecting chuckles of criticism when I mispronounced a word. While reading, with a dozen people watching and listening to me, I felt time stood still. Sometimes they corrected my pronunciations, but I felt their compassion and I had to laugh at my self thinking that I should and could be more patient with myself. I was encouraged to do the exercises, which I found very peaceful. When they explained that Falun Gong was "cultivation practice," I didn't fully understand what the term meant. I only thought about how cultivation related to watering a flower. When you give it the best water, sunshine, soil, etc., it grows healthily. The principles of Truth- Compassion-Tolerance were like watering your heart, I thought. I realized that this is what I've been seeking for a long time. I formed many friendships that day.

During the ensuing weeks I attended an exercise site near my home and learned all of the exercises. I also joined a weekly study group held at the public library. I found a lot of my negative behaviors were dissolving and I was gaining more confidence in myself. I gradually put aside my highly competitive mentally by adhering to the principles of Truth-Compassion-Tolerance. My anxiety that always led me to go out to party and network in search of success lessened. Soon my ego-based art was sold or thrown out for me to turn over a new leaf in my life. I sought a real 9-5 job in an office setting. This led me to more stability in my previously flighty life.

At first, using the Fa-princples at my job and with my family was challenging at times, but I quickly noticed my views on honestly upgraded a lot. Since my new job entailed handling accounts, there are some employees that steal accounts without other people knowing. This behavior is even encouraged. I remember once when one of my co-workers was absent I worked on one their accounts and received a large payment for it. I had full access to transfer the account to my accounts. I could have claimed it was mine because I worked on it, and without my working on it the account would not have made money. But I thought of my co-worker first in this situation. I thought that he needed a paycheck too. Besides, the account wasn't mine, so how can I steal it? My conscience woke up in this respect. When I pointed out to my co-worker that I got money for him on an account and gave him the information and payment codes, he was surprised and said, "Thanks, because someone else would've taken the money." I replied that I practice Falun Gong and stealing isn't good. As a result he could understand me better, and we talked about Falun Gong for a while.

Now I look out for other people's feelings first, and take accountability for my own actions, whereas before I hid from my responsibilities. I learned to take hardship as joy and I no longer want to steal or cover up mistakes. Master Li Hongzhi's teaching gave me a new life. My family life is much better since now I can be more honest with everyone. Even my father sometimes expresses that he's glad I'm doing what I do in helping the Chinese people and practicing Falun Gong.

There are many examples and lessons I'm learning since moving to Florida and obtaining Dafa. Each experience is rich and priceless.

My life in Dafa is like an onion peeling its outer skin layer by layer. I am exploring and sticking to the principles of the Fa, and I'm more open to understand more about what role I should play in life.

A Westerner's Experience of Practicing Falun Dafa

(Clearwisdom.net) In experience sharing articles about how westerners became practitioners, many people have shared how they sought many answers, read many books, tried different methods of cultivation, or had some bad attachments before they were introduced to Falun Dafa. After reading Zhuan Falun and practicing the five exercises, his or her life changed for the better.

I would like to honestly state all the contradictory feelings I had whilst embarking on the long road of cultivation of the Fa, rather than detailing why I decided to follow this cultivation method in the first place.

When I first read Zhuan Falun I did it with no expectations but just out of curiosity, in an effort to understand the message contained therein. The exercises were welcomed, especially as they appeared to be simple and were similar to other Qi exercises I had previously tried.

The format of Zhuan Falun was unusual, as I expected the usual "how to" manual
detailing all the benefits, but was most surprised to see that it was only a translation of nine lectures given by the Master. At first I was a little disappointed but decided to read the book from beginning to end with no belief that it would change my life. After all it never set out to be a "how to" Qi manual and indeed I was quite cynical that it could change my thinking and the way I had already practiced.

I will be very candid.Â My first impression was, how could the Master claim to know all the information shown in the book, after all he was only a man! I also felt the benefits to be gained were dubious, but I persevered with this cultivation method with no expectations at all. It was just yet another method I would try!

I attended a practice site andÂ continued the read both Falun Gong and Zhuan Falun and felt no particular health benefits but I began to, more importantly, understand the message of the Fa. I began to wonder how the Master knew so much about so many things and gradually the realization came to me of the great goodness of the Master and the Fa. I experienced no sudden conversion. Rather the truth came to me like a beautiful dawn on a spring morning. I will not give you any specific account of my attachments eliminated or my improvement in health but what I will say is that I only realized the changes in me by reflecting retrospectively on my progress after some time.

I did experience many dramatic incidents, where people close to me improved both in health and character and there were three incidents where I was saved from serious injury. Again it was only on reflection that I realized what had happened and I was humbled by the goodness, truth and strength of the Fa.

I see and understand many things now, especially amongst my fellow practitioners, and I have learned that I must have faith in Master, in that he knows what is in the hearts of every practitioner, including me.

I had the attachment of trying to correct what I perceived to be failures in those practitioners around me and became anxious if my efforts failed to have the effect I thought they should have.Â Now I know that faith and righteous thoughts can overcome anything.

Master said that each of us has his own personal journey and we are all at different levels and behind each of his words there are many levels of understanding. I found that I would try and find various passages in Master's writings to justify what I now know to be a human stance or opinion, andÂ to quote them in support of those opinions.Â I realized that as each of the Master's words are capable of deeper truths, depending on our level, then it follows that we cannot and perhaps should not use Master's words in this way to support what are after all just our human views.

My understanding of the Fa is changing continually andÂ the last thing I want to do is make everybody think or act in the same way I do, which in all probability is inadequate
anyway!

In conclusion, we have all heard the words "the Fa is good", I would like to add that I not only find it good but I find it beautiful! As my understanding improves I see more of the beauty of the Fa, especially in the simplicity of "Zhen, Shan, Ren." We should all do the three things well and it is my belief that on my personal journey I have a duty to spread the Fa as widely as possible, so that all sentient beings can perhaps experience the same beauty I do.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Jiang Guiyun from Dalian City was arrested in January 2005 by police from the Fumin Road Police Station in Malanzi, Sha District. Ms. Jiang was sent to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Shenyang City, where she is currently being held at Group 1, Division 1.

Jiang Guiyun has been on hunger strike for almost five months to protest the persecution. Her weight has dropped from 60 kg [132 lbs] to 45 kg [99 lbs] and her life is in danger.

2. [Panjin City, Liaoning Province] Practitioner Mr. Yang Lixin Force-fed

Dafa practitioner Mr. Yang Lixin, 42 years old, was a cadre at the Panjin City Petroleum Company, (also called the Panjin City Petrochemical Company). In November 2002, he was released on parole from the No. 3 Prison in Shenyang City after holding a three-month hunger strike. On August 4, 2005, he was arrested for the second time, and was sent to a solitary confinement cell at the No. 1 Prison in Shenyang City. He has been on hunger strike up until now, and the guards recently started to force-feed him. They force-fed him five times with concentrated salt solution along with other things, greatly impairing Yang Lixin's health.

According to a reliable source, officers from the Procuratorate went to the prison and said, "If he doesn't "reform" [give up Falun Gong], let him die here in the prison." We would greatly appreciate the international community to intervene in this matter. Thank you.

3. [Tianjin City] Practitioner Ms. Li Shufeng Abducted and Held at the Banqiao Women's Forced Labor Camp

Dafa practitioners Ms. Li Shufeng, and her sister Li Shumin, were held at the Banqiao Women's Forced Labor Camp in 2001.

Ms. Li Shumin was tortured to death.

Li Shufeng is 52 years old. She was very determined to keep her beliefs during her illegal detention at the labor camp. In late June 2004 her blood pressure was high and the labor camp authorities released her on medical parole. In early 2005, when she had partially recovered, the labor camp authorities tried to detain her again. Li Shufeng decided to leave home to avoid arrest and then work odd jobs. Her parents and parents-in-law are old and sick and need care. Her son was also recently discharged from the hospital after being treated for severe hepatitis. Her husband doesn't have a stable job, and her family is struggling. Her mother was traumatized by the death of Li Shumin and suffered a nervous breakdown. Li Shufeng needs to take care of all of this.

In early August 2005 Li Shufeng disappeared for a few days. Her family later learned that she had been arrested at an underground supermarket where she worked. Those who arrested her were from the Banqiao Women's Forced Labor Camp. Her family went to the labor camp and asked for her, but the labor camp authorities not only refused to release her, but they didn't even let her family meet with her. Her family left some clothes for Li Shufeng, and they don't know anything about her current condition.

4. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Dafa Practitioner Ms. Guo Lirong Arrested and Her Home Ransacked by Police

On September 1, 2005, more than 20 officers from the Chenghua Police Department in Chengdu City broke into the home of Dafa practitioner Ms. Guo Lirong, located in the Qianfeng Neighborhood District in Chengdu City. They took all of her Dafa books, a laptop computer, a mobile phone and other things, and arrested Guo Lirong for the second time. Guo Lirong's parents, who are both 80 years old, witnessed the arrest of their daughter by police for the second time.

In the past seven years of persecution, Guo Lirong has been fired by her employer, the Qianfeng Water Heater Company, detained many times, sent to labor camps twice, and compelled to go into exile.

5. [Sichuan Province] Practitioner Yuan Yuju Sent to the Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp

It has been verified that Dafa practitioner Yuan Yuju, a US citizen and a reporter for the NTDTV television station living in Hong Kong, was sent to Nanmusi Women's Labor Camp in Zizhong, Sichuan Province. Yuan Yuju is the mother of Liang Zhen. On September 1, Yuan Yuju's husband went to Luzhou City Police Department Custody Center to visit his wife and was told that she had been transferred without notifying her family. Her family later wrote to Nanmusi Women's Labor Camp and received confirmation that Yuan Yuju was held there. The labor camp authorities emphasized that the first month of detention is the "forced reform period" during which family visits are not allowed.

The National Security Division at the Luzhou City Police Department refused to give the Forced Labor Notice to Yuan Yuju's family, because her husband refused to sign it, therefore making it impossible for Yuan Yuju's family to appeal for an administrative review.

Lee Cheuk-yan, Cheung Man-kwong of the Hong Kong Legislative Council and Wang Kwong Wah of the District Legislative Council, signed a petition calling for the release of Yuan Yuju. This petition has been sent to the governor of Sichuan Province and the Mayor of Luzhou City.

The Nanmusi Women's Forced Labor Camp is known for its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. It has held several thousand Dafa practitioners. Practitioner Zhu Yinfang from Chengdu City was beaten to death for doing a movement from the Falun Gong exercises. Guards Zhang Xiaofang and others are known for their cruel abuse of Falun Gong practitioners. After the earlier atrocities at the labor camp were exposed, the perpetrators have resorted to more concealed and insidious methods of persecution.

Phone calls are very effective to suppress the persecution; many Dafa practitioners from Sichuan Province are held at this labor camp. The perpetrators at the labor camp are now emphasizing that they are using "humanitarian means" to brainwash practitioners, but in fact they are using mental and physical torture to achieve their goals as usual. Several days ago it was learned that practitioner Lu Yanfei from Suining, Sichuan Province, was at the brink of death from torture.

According to a reliable source, 39-year-old practitioner Jiang Yunjing from Hegang is being held at the Mudanjiang Prison. He has been on a hunger strike since August 1, 2005. We learned about this on September 3, 2005.

Practitioner Pang Shixing was held at Ward 9 of the Mudanjiang Prison. Deputy division head Pei Shenglie and the team head violently beat and kicked him because he copied down a poem from "Hong Yin." Guards Wu Xuejun, Shi Zhiqiang and Yu Fugang violently beat practitioner Huang Guodong, held at Ward 8 of Mudanjiang Prison.

7. [Ningxiang County, Hunan Province] Huang Liqiang Arrested and a Truth-Clarifying Materials Production Site at Her Home Damaged

At around 11:00 p.m. on August 30, 2005, more than ten policemen from the Yutan Town Police Station in Ningxiang County and the County Police Department broke into the home of 43-year-old practitioner Ms. Huang Liqiang and ransacked it. They confiscated truth-clarifying materials and a computer, a printer-scanner-fax combo and other equipment. They arrested Huang Liqiang and put her into the County Detention Center.

Huang Liqiang's husband, Mr. Li, and her son and daughter, were interrogated a whole day in the police department. Police forced them to talk about the practitioners who had contacted Huang Liqiang. Their intention is to persecute more practitioners.

8. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Gong Yufeng Held at the Daguang Detention Center

During the morning of August 24, 2005, personnel from the Weixing Road Police Station arrested practitioners Ms. Gong Yufeng and Wang Lanyi, employees from the Changchun City No. 28 Factory. Police ransacked their homes later on and found two books, Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and The Truth About Jiang Zemin. Wang Lanyi was released that night, but Gong Yufeng is being held at the Daguang Detention Center.

9. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Three Practitioners Arrested

Mr. Fan Jiahua, 61 years old, is a retiree from the Wuhou Police Station. At 8:00 p.m. on August 6, 2005, he was arrested at the Air Force Logistics Division Yard when distributing truth-clarifying materials. After 9:00 p.m. police ransacked his home.

In June 2005, personnel from the Longchang County 610 Office arrested practitioners Mr. Ye Jiangui, 38 years old, and Ms. Guo Guofen, and sentenced them to one year of forced labor at the Zizhong City Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp. Ye Jiangui is being held at the County Detention Center.

10. [Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province] Li Ming Sentenced to Three and a Half Years of Imprisonment

At the end of 2004, practitioner Li Ming from Yangzhou City was arrested and held at the City Detention Center for six months. They sentenced her to three and a half years of imprisonment in July 2005.

In August 2005, practitioner She Guolin from Yangzhou City was sentenced to three years of forced labor.

11. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Yang Chunhua Arrested Again

Practitioner Ms. Yang Chunhua from Pulandian, Tiexi District, Dalian City, in her 50s, has been arrested five times during the past six years for practicing Falun Gong. She was held at the Longshan Forced Labor Camp after her the fifth arrest and was tortured into severe emaciation. Police didn't notify her family to pick her up until she was near-death.

Through studying the Fa and doing the exercises, Yang Chuhua gradually recovered. At about 12:00 p.m. on August 31, 2005, police from Pulandian pried the steel door open and broke down the wooden door to Yang Chunhua's home. They took the half-dressed Yang Chunhua to a brainwashing class at a hotel in Dalian City.

It is said that Yang Chunhua started a hunger strike to protest as soon as she had arrived.

12. [Beijing] Li Dekui Held at the Qinghe Detention Center for Distributing Truth-Clarifying Materials

On August 19, 2005, 610 Office personnel followed and arrested practitioner Mr. Li Dekui from Beijing's Haidian District when Li was distributing truth-clarifying materials. Though he was found to suffer from high blood pressure and heart disease at a routine check-up during admission, police sent him into the Qinghe Detention Center.

13. [Donggang City, Liaoning Province] Sun Juan Arrested When Clarifying the Truth of Falun Dafa

Personnel from the Qianyang Police Station arrested practitioner Ms. Sun Juan when she was clarifying the truth of Falun Dafa in the Leida District of Yushu Village, Qianyang Town. She's currently being held at the Donggang City Detention Center.

14. [Tailai City, Heilongjiang Province] Zhang Kuiwu and Lu Yuping Suffer Cruel Tortures in the Tailai Prison

Practitioner Mr. Zhang Kuiwu was held at the No.11 Section of the Tailai Prison in Heilongjiang Province. Because he did the Falun Gong exercises, prisoners beat him with sticks.

Practitioner Mr. Lu Yuping was held at the Tailai Prison in Heilongjiang Province. He was transferred to the "intensified monitoring team" because he denounced membership in the Chinese Communist Party. He was tortured with the "Big Hang Up."

The name of the prisoner who tortured him is Ming Huanquan.

15. [Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province] Liang Miaoxia Arrested

On August 7, 2005, police in the Duanzhou District, Zhaoqing City, arrested practitioner Ms. Liang Miaoxia, the daughter of the publisher of Yangcheng Evening. She is being currently held at the Duanzhou District Detention Center in Zhaoqing City.

Liang Miaoxia insisted on clarifying the truth and doing the exercises. Her righteous actions made the local police panic, so they aggravated their persecution of her. The police denied any family visits. They handcuffed her and threatened to sentence her heavily.

16. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Wang Enguo Tortured in Tiebei City's No.2 Prison

At the beginning of March 2005, personnel from the No. 4 National Security Team of the Changchun City Police Department held practitioner Mr. Wang Enguo in the basement of the Jincheng Sub Police Department. He was prohibited from sleeping. Brutal torture left a long wound on his head and caused him to be mentally unstable. Now he has been transferred to Room 204 of the Tiebei City No. 2 Detention Center for further torture. The vicious police do not allow him to speak. Wang Enguo has been on hunger strikes three times. His weight plummeted from 90 kg to 60 kg. Currently he is on a hunger strike again.

Practitioner Xue Baoyu works at the Hongjiang City File Bureau. On June 30, 2005, when Xue clarified the truth to the bureau head, Yang Zhubin, Yang conducted a body search and reported this to the police department. On July 1, police officers Yi Zhongxian, Duan Jianguo, Shu Changgen and Yu Yuejun, as well as Xiang Qinghua from the 610 Office, searched Xue Baoyu's house and confiscated all of the Dafa books and truth-clarifying materials there. Then they sent Xue Baoyu to a detention center.

Xue Baoyu was sentenced to one year of forced labor at the Zhuzhou City Baimalong Forced Labor Camp on August 9.

19. [Gucheng County, Hebei Province] Practitioners Liu Yuping and Jiang Yuting Arrested When Hanging Up Truth-Clarifying Banners

Ms. Liu Yuping and Mr. Jiang Yuting are practitioners from Gucheng County, Hengshui Area, Hebei Province. During the night of August 30, 2005, while hanging up truth-clarifying banners, policemen arrested them and put them into the Gucheng County Detention Center.

(Clearwisdom.net) A "solemn declaration" is a person's public statement declaring to the world that whatever he or she has done or said under duress or deception that was against Falun Dafa is null and void. Most of these statements have come from Falun Dafa practitioners in China who wished to express regret that, in the face of physical torture and brainwashing, they had signed documents renouncing Dafa and guaranteeing not to practice again. Also, as more and more people in China learn the truth about how they have been deceived and lied to by the Jiang regime, many non-practitioners are also submitting "solemn declarations."
