As reported by Falun Gong's Minghui Chinese language website, Shanghai
Public Security Department, the National Public Security Department and
local governments of all levels have escalated the persecution of Falun Gong
practitioners. In May and June, over a hundred Falun Gong practitioners were
arrested in Shanghai alone.

Those familiar with the scene in Shanghai believe there are three reasons
behind the escalation. The first is that the Central Committee of the
Chinese Communist Party issued an order in March to actively suppress anyone
who introduces Falun Gong and the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party
to people.

The second reason is that authorities are trying to limit the spread of
information in mainland China about live organ harvesting from Falun Gong
practitioners, and have begun to kidnap practitioners on a larger scale.

Thirdly, in preparation for the G6 summit of the Shanghai Cooperation
Organization (SCO) that took place in June, Shanghai authorities arrested
practitioners in order to further limit the spreading of information about
the persecution of Falun Gong at the SCO summit.

Below are a few of the cases that have been documented thus far:

1. On the evening of July 6, 2006, Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Xiaomei
from Xinchang Town of Nanhui County in Shanghai was kidnapped by Xinchang
Public Security and residential committee personnel. Her home was searched,
and her belongings were confiscated.

2. On June 26, 2006, policemen kidnapped Gu Jimin, another female Falun Gong
practitioner from Shanghai, when she was visiting another Falun Gong
practitioner. Her home was then searched and her possessions confiscated. Gu
is currently in detention.

3. On June 14, 2006, Shanghai Dahua Hospital doctor Qian Wuling, went
missing on her way back home. It turned out she was kidnapped by the
Shanghai Xuhui Public Security personnel for practicing Falun Gong.

4. On May 30, 2006, Chen Yaoqing, an elderly practitioner from Pengpu Town
of Zhabei District in Shanghai was kidnapped by policemen from the Zhabei
branch 610 Office 1 , and her home was also searched. Chen Yaoqing is
currently illegally locked up at the Lingshi Road Detention Center in Zhabei
District.
