Criminal Offense in China

It's a criminal offense to criticize the government in China. They sentence people to jail or worse for this 'offense' all the time in China. This is a severe violation of human rights and freedoms.

Yes, I know, it has been going on for a long time. However, it is time for it to stop. Because frankly, it is a terrible way for any government to treat the citizens of its own country.

Frankly, I believe people should have the right to believe in what they want, so long as it doesn't cause physical harm to anyone else. But China has different ideas. They don't seem to 'get it'. Unfortunately, it is this same policy that hurts China in every environment they attempt to do well in.

Why do I say this? There is a very simple answer. They stifle their intellectual capital all the time, giving themselves a handicap in every which way.

If you study free countries that are prosperous you realize that free countries are prosperous precisely because they allow for creativity and the open discussion of thoughts and ideas. Prosperous countries tend to do this. The more freedoms that individuals enjoy within a country, the more new things come to market, the more creativity exists, the more society flourishes.

When you try to shut people down by making them afraid to say anything, of course the exchange of ideas will be stifled. Fear will replace it. And with fear comes deterioration.
Isn't is so much better to have a country full of people that feel free, confident and secure. They can then do their best work for society, push society forward and make the culture stronger and better.

It is just the opposite in countries like China. Without freedom and with rampant corruption, there is nothing more than the two classes, the exploiters and the exploited. Oh, sure there are people that fall into both categories, but in general that is the problem.

Without free elections you have a country that has a ruling class or dictatorship. Without, accountability to the public, without the need to take care of voters to insure one's position, there is nothing left but rulers (officials) who are going to hurt and exploit others. Without accountability it is so easy to fall into the situation you have in China today.

The Chinese culture and society could flourish much more. The ruling communist party members, for the most part, have no incentive to make the lives of its citizens happier. If they did, the situation would be different.

Instead, they feel that they can torture, kill, imprison or eliminate anyone that even raises the specter of a democratic idea or good idea. This policy doesn't just ensnare the people who are interested in democracy, but also extends to those who hold a belief in almost anything.
As the main character pointed out in the move , V is for Vengeance, an idea is not flesh, it can not be killed or repressed or destroyed. An idea in many ways is stronger than flesh and that is what the Communist Party leaders dread the most.

An idea can grow and gather strength and supporters. Any organized group that stands for making life better for the people is what the Chinese Commie leaders fear the most.
But, what they do not understand, especially in the case of Falun Gong, is that peaceful meditators who believe in Truth, Compassion and Tolerance have no interest in taking over. They simply want to be good for goodness' sake. To meditate and focus on making themselves better people.

Why torture them for that?

The commies have nothing to fear from this, in fact it can make the society better and people happier. So why not stop the torture and senseless killing today?

What government wouldn't want that? Therefore, the persecution of Falun Gong is irrational.
